About OUISoc

One of Oxford's oldest student societies — a spiritual home, welfare network, and community.

Presidential welcome

Welcome to OUISoc

Assalamu Alaikum and welcome. Whether you're a fresher arriving at Oxford for the first time, a returning student, or someone curious about Islam and the Muslim community here — we're glad you're here.

OUISoc exists to serve every Muslim student at Oxford: to help you find your feet, to support your wellbeing, to nurture your faith, and to connect you with a vibrant, diverse community.

Oxford is an extraordinary place, but it can also be a challenging one. We are here to make sure you never face it alone.

Our History

Founded in the early 1960s, OUISoc is one of Oxford's oldest student societies. Over sixty years we have been a spiritual home, welfare network, and community for thousands of Muslim students — from all over the world, studying every subject, across all 38 Oxford colleges.

From our early days to the present, OUISoc has adapted to serve each generation of Oxford Muslims: establishing prayer rooms, launching access conferences, and building a community that has shaped the lives of countless graduates.

Our mission

Three pillars

Everything we do flows from three core commitments.

🌙

Spiritual Life

Weekly halaqas, Quran circles, Friday prayers, Ramadan programmes, and Eid celebrations. We nurture faith through every stage of the Oxford journey.

"And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]." — Quran 2:43

🤝

Community

Welfare officers in every college, social events throughout the year, and a network of Muslim students spanning all 38 Oxford colleges.

"The believers are but brothers." — Quran 49:10

📚

Excellence

OMAC, subject guides, and mentoring programmes. We believe Muslims belong at every level of academic and professional life.

"Read in the name of your Lord who created." — Quran 96:1
