Our History
Six decades of faith, scholarship, and community at the University of Oxford.
From the 1960s to today
OUISoc is one of Oxford's oldest student societies. This is our story.
OUISoc Founded
Oxford University Islamic Society is established, becoming one of Oxford's oldest student societies. A small group of Muslim students come together to create a space for prayer, community, and Islamic learning.
Growth and establishment
As Oxford's Muslim student population grows, OUISoc becomes a more established part of university life. The society organises regular prayer gatherings, lectures, and social events.
Prayer room established
OUISoc successfully campaigns for a dedicated university prayer room, providing a permanent space for Muslim students to pray on campus.
Expanding outreach
The society begins formal access and outreach work, reaching Muslim students in schools across the UK and inspiring them to apply to Oxford.
OMAC launches
The Oxford Muslim Access Conference (OMAC) is formally established, bringing hundreds of Muslim sixth-formers to Oxford each year for a full day of talks, workshops, and inspiration.
OUISoc today
Today, OUISoc serves over 1,000 Muslim students across Oxford's 38 colleges. We run welfare programmes, weekly spiritual events, annual Ramadan and Eid celebrations, OMAC, and much more.
History is still being written
Every year, a new generation of Oxford students adds to the OUISoc story. Whether as committee members, event organisers, or simply community members — you are part of this history.
